The initiative is part of the cost-saving measures and cost containment taken by the Consell in order to reduce the current spending on ict, in particular, the expenditure for the use of proprietary licensing.

The Government has completed the deployment of free software office automation equipment in all the jobs of the Generalitat. It will save eur 1.5 million in the acquisition of licences from 2014.
