The european commission and the data set up an association of eur 2.5 billion for the domain of macrodatos

The european commission and the european data have signed a memorandum of understanding for the establishment of an association público-privada (APP) on macrodatos. This investment is aimed at strengthening this sector and putting europe at the forefront of the world data.

The domain of macrodatos could mean:

  • Up to 30 per cent of the world market of data for the european suppliers.
  • 100,000 new jobs related to data in Europe by 2020.
  • A reduction of 10% of energy consumption, better health outcomes and industrial machinery more productive.

The APP will help to focus the efforts of public, private research and academic support for research and innovation on processing ideas concerning macrodatos in the fields of energy, manufacturing and health, with the aim of providing services such as medicine, food logistics and analyses of prediction. Thanks to the implementation of its Strategic Research & Innovation and the concentration of support in the horizon 2020 common priorities, the APP will strengthen the european macrodatos and contribute to laying the foundations of the economy of the data prosperous of the future. The APP will also support innovative 'spaces' to provide secure environments to experiment with private data and open. These will also serve as a business incubators and centres for the development of competencies and best practices.

The Jpa, beginning its operations on 1 january 2015, is one of the first results of the policy and plan of action that the european commission has recently launched to accelerate the development of the european economy based on data (see IP/14/769 and MEMO/14/455).
