The Prize to good practices on privacy and protection of personal data

La Agencia Española de Protección de Datos ha convocado el "Premio a las Buenas Prácticas en privacidad y protección de datos personales" sobre iniciativas para la adecuación al Reglamento General de Protección de Datos y a la Ley Orgánica de protección de datos personales y garantía de los derechos digitales.

The spanish data protection (AEPD) has published the foundations for Awards ‘ protection of personal data 2019 ’. This edition includes two new categories: the prize of enterprise in data protection ‘ Ángela Ruiz Robles ’ and the award for good practices for greater protection of privacy of women victims of gender-based violence. Beside them are the prizes of good practices on initiatives to adapt the rules of procedure, communication, good practices In education for the safe use of internet for minors and research ‘ Emilio Aced ’.

The Agency with these awards recognize the work done to disseminate this fundamental right in such areas as education, business, research científico-técnica, conducted by Public Administrations and carried out by media, as well as to reward good practices in the sensitive area of protection of victims of gender-based violence. The deadline for nominations expires on 15 november.

The Entrepreneurship award in protection of personal data ‘ Ángela Ruiz Robles ’ (Opens in new window) is designed to reward the business development, product or service creative, innovative and with social impact on data protection and upholding the rights and freedoms.

In this first edition has prioritized, inter alia, those activities relating to the management of risks and remedies relating to disruptive technologies, covering specific categories of data on treatment, are considered high risk, affecting a significant part of the society or vulnerable groups.

The Award for good practices in relation to initiatives of the public and private sectors aimed at greater protection of privacy of women victims of gender-based violence (Opens in new window)  premiará una actividad, producto o servicio del ámbito público o privado destinado a la sensibilización y prevención de las distintas formas de violencia de género en el entorno de internet.

A modo de ejemplo de buenas prácticas, se valorarán especialmente las apps, guías, herramientas o materiales que las entidades públicas o privadas desarrollen para prevenir la violencia de género en internet.

The Award for good practices on initiatives to adapt the rules of procedure (Opens in new window) recognizes the work of organizations which promote adaptation to the General rules on data protection (RGPD), as well as those that contribute to ensuring the fundamental right to protection of personal data. In assessing nominations shall take into account cases where adaptation to RGPD and compliance are of a particular challenge for making reference to data treatments. The award, which consisted of a honours and sharing of best practices, is being convened in two modes:

  1. Ongoing initiatives taken by private companies, associations and foundations to adapt to RGPD.
  2. Initiatives to adapt the rules of procedure carried out by the entities that make up the public sector.

The Data protection prize communication 2019 (Opens in new window) , which includes a prize of 3,000 euros and a second prize of €1,500, is designed to recognize the journalistic work of media and media professionals that will provide an important input to the promotion of privacy among citizens and organizations that promote personal information.

Podrán optar al mismo trabajos individuales dedicados a la materia objeto de la convocatoria −como un editorial, noticia, reportaje, o programa de radio o televisión− o proyectos periodísticos que definan un compromiso con la promoción de la protección de datos −tales como series de noticias o secciones especializadas−.

In this edition of the communication prizes priority will be jobs that have contributed to further disseminate the data protection, both between citizens and between those who seek data, as well as the area of social responsibility of the agency.

The Premio a las Buenas prácticas educativas en privacidad y protección de datos para un uso seguro de internet (Opens in new window)  tiene por objeto premiar la adopción de buenas prácticas que promuevan el conocimiento del derecho fundamental a la protección de datos entre los alumnos de Educación Primaria, Secundaria, Bachillerato y Formación Profesional, y que contribuyan a concienciar a los alumnos sobre el valor de la privacidad y el uso responsable de la información personal que comparten en internet, tanto propia como de terceros.

The prize - which may be submitted projects, initiatives for advocacy and awareness-raising workshops, or materials, among others - is being convened in two modes:

  1. Good practices carried out by educational establishments of primary, secondary, baccalaureate and Vocational training. The prize includes a staffing establishment of school materials in the amount of €3,000.
  2. Involvement of individuals, institutions, organizations and associations, public or private, who have distinguished themselves prominently on the momentum and the dissemination of the safe internet use among minors, related primarily to the personal information, with the courage to privacy. This award is voluntarily.

It concerns the work to study the risks and remedies relating to innovative technologies, covering specific categories of data or treatments that are considered high risk, among other things.

The Research award Emilio Aced (Opens in new window)  reconoce trabajos y proyectos con un enfoque estrictamente práctico realizados en el ámbito de una Universidad o institución de la Unión Europea o Iberoamérica que promueva o financie estudios de investigación en el contexto de la investigación científico-técnica y en los que se apliquen los principios de protección de datos con el fin de garantizar los derechos y libertades de las personas. El premio de Investigación incluye una dotación económica de 3.000 euros y la difusión del trabajo premiado.
